Eighty entries for Pedigree Working Dog Auction

THE 2009 Pedigree Working Dog Auction will see 80 dogs from some of Australia's leading bloodlines go under the hammer at Island Park in Casterton on Sunday, June 7.

Attracting entries from four Australian states, the sale has long held the mantle of Australia’s premier working dog auction, with last year’s sale clearing 85 per cent and grossing $136,650.
Pedigree Working Dog Auction committee chairman, Andrew Harrison said this year’s event has attracted several first-time vendors representing new bloodlines, which demonstrates the significance of the auction.
“The event is now well recognised as the place to purchase quality and affordable working dogs representing some of the best bloodlines in the country,” he said.
“We have another full catalogue this year with dogs entered by breeders in New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and across Victoria.”
Mr Harrison said potential buyers are ensured of a good quality offering with four breeders of previous top-priced dogs returning to the sale ring including vendor of the top priced trained dog at last year’s auction, Ricky Jones from Broken Hill.
Sale registrations have also been received from Joe Spicer, GoGetta Kelpie Stud at Hamilton, Ian O’Connell, Bagalla Working Kelpies at Strathkellar and Paul Macphail, Welshpool who were vendors of top-priced dogs in 2007, 2006 and 2005 respectively.
Sale day at Island Park in Casterton commences with buyer registrations from 8am, following which potential buyers are encouraged to inspect dogs and speak with vendors.
Yard and paddock demonstrations will commence at 9.30am and each vendor will have approximately five minutes to showcase their dog’s abilities.
The auction starts at 3pm and will be overseen by former national auctioneering champion, James Tierney from Elders Wagga Wagga in the NSW Riverina who has made the journey to his home district for the past two years to conduct the auction.
A $5 charge will apply to all visitors to Island Park and only dogs registered for sale in the auction will be permitted entry to the site.
A pre-sale catalogue is now available for inspection.
