Flyball fun for dogs

FLYBALL - a type of hurdle racing for dogs - is guaranteed to entertain visitors at this year's Kelpie Muster.

The Bellarine Dog Activities Group from Geelong will conduct a flyball demonstration on Saturday, June 6 following the Kelpie Race.
This fast-paced and fun competition for dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes is gaining in popularity according to Helen Read from the Bellarine Dog Activities Group.
“Any dog that is sociable with other dogs, comes when called and loves to fetch and is physically fit can learn flyball,” she said.
“Flyball is a dog sport where humans are the cheerleaders.  Teams travel widely to compete and flyball is a great social outlet for dogs and their owners.”
Flyball is a team event for four dogs over a 16m course interspersed with four jumps.  Dogs must clear each jump, use their weight to trigger a box and catch an ejected ball before racing back to the starting line.  Another dog is then released to run the course.
The flyball demonstration will be held in Casterton’s main street following the Kelpie Dash, which starts at 2pm.
